In the mid-19th century there was no division between the arts and sciences – a view reflected in the broad range of objects displayed in the exhibition, from scientific specimens to Impressionist paintings. The exhibition is arranged in a sequence of thematic sections. The teacher’s notes highlight particular exhibits in each section which may be helpful starting points for using the exhibition with school groups, as well as ways in which the exhibition can be linked to the primary curriculum. Schools can also get involved with the exhibition on-line through sharing photos and observational drawings.
